Pioneer Trek Programs and Summer Day Camps!
Pioneer Trek
Travel back in time to experience what it was like to live in Redmond in the late 1800's. Learn about the history of Farrel-McWhirter Farm Park, dress up in period costumes, do some farm "chores," and play games similar to what pioneer children participated in many years ago.
This program is perfect for scout troops, youth groups, birthday parties, and homeschoolers.
Cost: $125 plus $100 refundable deposit
Group Size: A maximum of 15 children, with a minimum of 2 adults
Age: 1st through 6th graders
Program Length: 1 hour
Time slots available from 4-6pm Monday through Friday, or may be arranged at alternate times if space if available. Wagon rides may be available late spring through early fall.
To set up a pioneer trek program, please fill out and send the Nature Vision Registration Form. Once dates/times are confirmed, you will have three business days in which to submit payment and sign the contract. If you have an questions, please email info@naturevision.org.

Wild about Insects Camp
Are you fascinated by the secret lives of insects and their relatives? Learn about insect lifecycles and their special adaptations for survival. Meet insects and their relatives in stream, meadow and wetland habitats.

Into the Wild Nature Camp
If your child likes spending time outside, enjoys being in nature, and wants to learn more about the great outdoors, this is the perfect camp! Campers will head into some “wild” parts of Redmond and learn basic wilderness survival skills, how to make cool crafts from natural materials, what to look for when tracking animals in the woods and much more! Safety and fun are emphasized in this unique camp.

Pioneer camp
Travel back in time to experience life on the Oregon Trail in the mid 1800’s. Encounter situations similar to what real pioneers faced, and make tough choices in order to survive. Travel forward to Redmond in the late 1800s, and learn about the history of Farrel-McWhirter Farm Park, where you'll get to dress up in period costumes, do some farm chores, play games similar to what pioneer children participated in many years ago, and learn about homesteading.

Water Connections Camp
Water connects everything in nature, and people depend on it too. Learn about the path of our water as it travels from mountains to sound, through natural and human built environments. Discover how water connects all living things, and how to conserve and protect our local water bodies.

Native Plants and People Camp
Native people of the Northwest have a strong connection to native plants and their environment. Learn how to identify native plants, and special ways they can be used for food and traditional medicinal uses. Cook a wild edibles meal, and help wildlife by removing invasive plants that take space away from native plants in a local park.

Oregon Trail Adventure
Experience life on the Oregon Trail...in Redmond! Travel back in time and spend a day on the Oregon Trail. You'll be divided into pioneer 'families' and assigned a 'Prairie Schooner' Radio Flyer wagon. Starting at the trading post at Juel Park, you'll get to purchase supplies to stock your wagon for the adventure that lies ahead. Once on the trail you'll have encounters similar to what real pioneers faced, and will have to make tough choices in order to survive. Upon the completion of your journey you'll learn tips and tricks for establishing a homestead. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at 'Fort' Farrel-McWhirter. Come dressed in period costume if you'd like, wear good hiking shoes that can get muddy and be dressed for the weather!

Seasonal Walk in the Woods
Explore the same trail in the fall, winter, spring and summer, and discover the magical changes that occur throughout the year. See leaves turn colors in the fall, discover drippy moss in the winter, listen for baby birds in the spring and pick luscious berries in the summer.
Dress for the weather. Register each child separately, one parent per two children, please. Note: Okay to bring younger siblings less than 2 years at no charge, but you must be able to hike with them!
